About Rick Hoppe
I write about change.
Sometimes that change takes the form of revolutions that reshape nations. Sometimes it appears in the quieter struggles that shape individual lives. Whether I am writing nonfiction, fiction, essays, or multimedia projects, I find myself returning to the same questions: How do people adapt to hardship? What gives life meaning? What allows individuals and societies to endure?
I am a veteran, intelligence analyst, author, and artist. Over the course of my career, I spent decades studying political instability, revolutionary movements, insurgencies, terrorism, and the forces that influence human behavior. Those experiences eventually led to the development of the framework presented in Eight Stages: A Primer on Modern Revolution, a practical model for understanding how revolutionary movements emerge, evolve, and end.
My writing, however, extends beyond political analysis.
In I Looked Into My Soul, I explore questions of faith, purpose, struggle, and self-reflection. In Psalm for the Damned, a multimedia storytelling project, I examine themes of memory, redemption, sacrifice, and grace through the lives of deeply human characters confronting loss, guilt, hope, and forgiveness.
As an artist, I have been honored as a three-time Texas Distinguished Veteran Artist. As a writer, I remain fascinated by the intersection of history, faith, culture, and the human condition.
Words by Rick exists as a place to share books, essays, stories, and conversations. Whether your interests lie in political change, veteran experiences, fiction, faith, or the search for meaning, I hope you find something here worth taking with you.
Thank you for visiting.
